Medical marijuana products can be consumed in a multitude of ways. In fact, there are so many different marijuana consumables that we couldn’t all forms of medical cannabis in this guide. However, you will learn about the different main types of consumables and how to determine which ones are best for you.
Flower/Bud
Flower gets its name from being the seed-bearing part of the plant and is the most well-known form of marijuana. A flower is a bud that opens and when fertilized produces some type of fruit with seeds in it. In marijuana, this part is also where the highest concentration of THC is found. There are only two base types of plant strains of cannabis: Indica or Sativa. However, there are hundreds or more crossbreeds of the two with some strains of a flower having a THC content of 30 to 35 percent.
The flower is traditionally dried, and the bud is separated by breaking away the stems, leaves, and seeds. The flower is then consumed using a pipe, wrapped in a paper like a cigarette (commonly referred to as “a joint”), water bong, or vaporizers.
Edibles
Edibles are precisely what they sound like, marijuana you can eat. They come in a variety of confectionary creations, most of which have a THC concentration of five to 10mg per serving. Although the Elvis, a type of medicinal marijuana cookie contains 1000mg. Edibles are also available in a cannabis pill form.
Unlike smoked bud or vaporized marijuana, edibles can take one to two hours to become effective. But they compensate by lasting a bit longer than the smoked version.
Concentrates
This form of marijuana has a higher THC concentration than most others because the THC is separated from the plant using a solvent such as CO2, alcohol, butane or ethanol. The extract is used to make shatter, wax, tinctures, or oil.
Hash
Hash or hashish is one of the oldest forms of marijuana and is technically a concentrate, but it is not separated using a solvent. Traditionally, the flowers are shaken over a silk screen and the glands of the plant that produce resin drop to the bottom. The screen is used to sieve the glands creating a powdery substance known as kief. This powder is pressed into a block creating the hash.
