Dr. Trina Hazzah discussed the effectiveness of small docs of THC to properly treat certain conditions. Dr. Hazzah pointed to low dosing of THC as an oncologist to help patients with cancer. Understanding its toxicity in animals, Dr. Hazzah suggests that dosing must be appropriate to be effective. Dr. Hazzah went on to suggest that evidence exists supporting THC as an effective tool for treating seizures in both dogs and cats as it inhibits glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter.
On the non-psychoactive side of things, studies exist to show that CBD has a profound impact on canine cancer cells. The study referenced by Dr. Hazzah revealed that CBD had a larger antitumor effect than CBDA, albeit in a petri dish rather than on a patient.
Treating Cats and Dogs
The treatment of cats and dogs with hemp, CBD, and THC-laden products is currently being researched. Dr. Richter highlighted that some of the big notes of interest involve application efforts.
Cats and dogs don’t have a practical way to consume sublingual dosing for THC or CBD products, leaving topical and edible products the leading products being studied. Dr. Richter advocates tincture-based products because they are easy to add in small, controlled doses. Dr. Richrter went on to point out that cats and dogs react very differently to THC intoxication, meaning there is plenty more to research.
